(from The Santa Clause!)
Have you ever thought to make homemade hot chocolate? Or do you always resort to Swiss Miss? Now I’ll always love Swiss Miss, but if you have a couple extra minutes, the homemade stuff is worth it. It took Judy 1200 years to get it right, but you can have it RIGHT NOW!
Judy's Homemade Hot Cocoa
The kind of hot chocolate you'd want to share with Santa.
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 4 cups milk
- 1/3 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Whipped cream (optional)
- Cocktail (beverage) shaker
- Large silver mug (optional)
- Silver platter (optional)
In a bowl, whisk together your cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Set aside.
In a medium pot, combine and heat your milk, heavy cream, and vanilla extract over medium low heat, until the edges bubble and the liquid is steamy.
In your shaker, add 1 1/2 cups of your liquid mixture and 1/3 cup of the cocoa mixture. Put the top on and give it a good shake! (PSA: if your liquid is too hot, the shaker top will pop off - so be careful!)
Pour into your mug, serve on the platter, and that's it! (Serves 3-4)
