I used to think that funnel cakes were a summer time/amusement park/carnival treat…but not anymore! This is probably not a good thing…but now, you can make it at home…and it’s so good.
Homemade Funnel Cakes
A simple & easy recipe for funnel cakes that taste just as good as your inner child remembers them to be.
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 cups flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Vegetable oil (enough to fill your frying pan 1-2 inches deep)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Empty ketchup bottle (or any type of squeeze bottle) *this is optional
- Frying pan
For the Batter
Beat your eggs in a medium-sized bowl.
Add in your milk, water, and vanilla extract and combine.
In a separate bowl, whisk together your flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Combine the wet and dry mixtures and beat together until smooth.
Frying the Batter
Add your vegetable oil to the frying pan and heat over medium-low heat until it reaches 350 degrees (F).
After filling your bottle with the batter, pour the batter into the oil in a circular motion until the surface is covered. If using your funnel, put your thumb over the spout, fill the funnel, and release your finger to pour it into the oil.
Fry for 1 1/2 - 2 minutes on each side, until golden brown. Use two spatulas to help flip the cake.
Transfer cake to a paper towel to absorb some of the excess oil.
Put cake on a plate, dust with powdered sugar, and that's it!
